Sherwood Strauss talks about the Golden State Warriors future with Stephon Curry in his latest piece at Warriorsworld. The possibility of a trade between GS and Memphis (Rudy Gay for Monta Ellis respectively) seems like a good idea. I guess Gay and Curry are buddies and Strauss was right in pointing out Ellis’ hindrance of Curry’s game.
A long time ago, I asked Stephen Curry: “Is there any player who you’d love to play with and love to have on the team? One particular guy?”
Stephen ignored the who’d/whom error and quickly said, “Rudy Gay,” as though the choice was obvious.
I asked, “Rudy Gay?” with a cadence that betrayed holy incredulity.
Curry responded: “Definitely. Leave it at that, Rudy Gay.”
He didn’t exactly leave it at that. There was somesuch about Don Nelson’s system and how Rudy would fit in.

A Gay-Ellis trade excises Curry’s rival playmaker while bringing a friend. It is a statement of loyalty and faith. The risky downsides would be a) If Curry leaves anyway or b) If Curry isn’t good enough to warrant such maneuvering. I personally believe that Curry is good enough to build around. If you buy that much, then that blurrs the question of, “How do you improve this team?” If a potential bad move keeps Curry in the Bay, is it a bad move?
The emphasis was mine because if I was a Warriors fan that’s what I’d worry about. The Warriors got a great player in Stephon Curry, but I’m not sure he’s big enough to warrant him as “Your main guy” that you can build around. His frame is Durant-esque, but without the length. I do think Ellis for Gay helps both teams though. Memphis could use a gunner, and Ellis fits that perfectly. Gay and Curry would be two peas in a pod judging from Strauss’ earlier interview.

“Mama, there goes that man (coach)”
Mark Jackson has the 3rd most assist in NBA history, is the prime reason why the NBA instituted the ‘Five-second back to the basket rule’, and is now the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Jackson signed a three year deal worth around $6 million. The 46 year-old has never coached at any level, but lets not forget, he did play 17 years in ‘The Association’.
“I fully expect, put it in bold letters, the Golden State Warriors to be a playoff team next year… If I did not expect that, I would not have taken the job, and I won’t minimize it with just being a playoff team. We are looking to turn the Bay Area upside down.” - Mark Jackson
